Therapy is a process, by which an individual works with a professional (Marriage & Family Therapist) in trying to achieve specific goals and/or to overcome difficult obstacles.  The American Psychology Association (APA) describes therapy as a process of "helping people, of all ages, live happier, healthier and more productive lives."

There are various units of treatment for therapy, including individual therapy, family therapy, couples counseling, and group counseling.  There are also various theoretical modalities to therapy.  You can find out more about specific modalities by clicking here

In my experience, I have learned that a combination of modalities is critical to being able to help clients achieve progress through therapy.  While I am very comfortable with CBT, Client Centered and Psychodynamic modalities, I would classify my predominant modality as Rogerian.  I consider my style Rogerian because I feel that each client has a unique voice and that it is my duty to encourage that voice to become more authentic to the client’s whole being.

What you can expect from therapy?

Therapy involves understanding the mechanics of our actions, attitudes, and emotions.  Once this is uncovered we can adjust our actions to attain a more desirable result.

The sessions are once a week at a set day and time and last 50 minutes (but can be adjusted to meet the needs of the therapy).
